Bio

Nathan Hanson is a saxophonist and composer, and a 2026 ACF McKnight Composer Fellow. He has performed at the Atlantique Jazz Festival, Splendor Amsterdam, Sons d'Hiver in Paris, the Knitting Factory in New York, the Outpost in Albuquerque, the Walker Art Center and Elastic in Chicago.

Grants from New Music America and the Minnesota State Arts Board have supported his solo projects, which explore how space interacts with sound, in places like a cathedral, a tree farm and a sculpture garden. He has worked with Jacques Thollot, Catherine Delaunay, Dennis Gonzalez and Anne La Berge, and plays saxophone in drummer Davu Seru's No Territory Band. He has made more than a dozen albums, on labels including Innova, nato and Skirl.

On the Anthrophonic album Ghost Dance, he plays saxophones.
