Bio
Graham O'Brien is a drummer, composer and producer in the Twin Cities. He started playing drums around 1997, adding live percussion to music for rapper friends, and spent years in the local hip hop scene working with Eyedea, Kristoff Krane, Sadistik, Carnage and No Bird Sing, among others. His solo debut, Live Drums (2010), is an instrumental hip hop record of live, saturated drums over textured sample soundscapes.
Since then he has turned the kit itself into the instrument that runs everything. In his Drum Controller videos he triggers electronic arrangements from a minimal acoustic kit, with contact mics feeding Ableton Live in real time. He has played and recorded with John Keston for years, including 45 Delusions, made with former Merce Cunningham dancers for the Walker Art Center in 2017.
On the Anthrophonic album kcob / eudaemonic he plays drums, and he recorded and mixed it. He also recorded, mixed and mastered Ghost Dance.
