Bio
Dan Elbert is a saxophonist, composer, teacher and writer from the San Francisco Bay Area. He quit his job and moved to a remote village in Northern Thailand to study jazz, then moved to the city and joined a Thai jazz co-operative. He went on to complete his master's at the Berklee Global Jazz Institute, studying with Danilo Perez, Joe Lovano, George Garzone, John Patitucci, Terri Lyne Carrington, Dave Liebman and Kenny Werner. He moved to New York City in 2022.
He has toured in China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Panama and Costa Rica, and shared the stage with Danilo Perez, Kenny Werner, Ralph Thomas, Allen Stone and Amanda Palmer. In a 2024 interview he said people improvise in every culture, just in different ways, and that jazz reaches people when players drop the conventions and take real risks. "Let the spirit move you. Let it be a little raw."
On the Anthrophonic album Arkive Sessions, he plays alto saxophone.
