Bio
Netirak "Beer" Phonsrirach is a drummer who grew up in rural Thailand watching traditional Isan bands. He learned in his high school drum corps, taught mostly by older students, and the corps often won regional championships. At university he studied drums seriously, learned to read notation, and played swing, pop from the 1980s and 1990s and some Thai music, backing other artists. He later studied musicology at Mahidol University in Bangkok.
In a 2024 interview (translated from Thai) he described improvising as a shared journey: a piece has a clear start and end, but "the middle is open-ended, like opening the door to leave the house." How you get home is up to you, and every path is different. He said free improvisation lets him be fully himself.
On the Anthrophonic album Arkive Sessions, he plays drums.
