Bio

Casey O'Brien is a bassist, composer and improviser, and the person behind Anthrophonic. He came up in Minneapolis, playing in the jazz-rap group Face Candy and spending a decade in the collective Coloring Time.

Since then his playing has taken him a long way from home. He studied Indian classical music in Varanasi, did a residency at Nyege Nyege Studios in Uganda, and spent two years running weekly improvised sessions at the Northgate Jazz Co-Op in Chiang Mai. Those sessions became Arkive Sessions.

He's now based in Budapest, where he plays free improvisation with Christopher Robin Cox and Roland Heidrich in the trio Melting ICE. His records on the label run from the spiritual jazz of Ghost Dance to the bass and field recordings of eudaemonic, with 2nd Set: Live in Minneapolis on the way.
